Wes is the sole copywriter/editor at SkillUnlimited and is working out of Wyalusing, PA, which is about a three-hour drive to both New York City and Philadelphia. He recently entered the field after a extensive, rewarding career in the newspaper business as editor, reporter and writer. The previous 24 years he has served as the editor of the Rocket-Courier newspaper in Wyalusing, where he reaped 15 statewide awards for writing, reporting and writing commentary from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association (PNA) and Associated Press (in his previous life as a daily newspaper editor/reporter). He was the reigning first-place weekly newspaper columnist in Pennsylvania via the PNA’s Keystone Press Awards of 2010 and in 2011 he picked up two more first-place awards for feature and news reporting.
Wes retired from the newspaper business at the end of March 2011 to pursue freelance copywriting. He has studied the finer points of the copywriting through the AWAI Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting. He is a member of the Professional Writers’ Alliance, receiving invaluable insight about the business through Dan S. Kennedy’s online ”Business of Copywriting Academy.”
Wes has been fortunate to have enjoyed a number of freelance copywriting opportunities in the year prior to his retirement as a journalist. That includes writing and updating corporate case studies for Futurethink. He has researched and written for the developing website, biginterview.com, as well as copywriting for business and professional websites and was recently contracted to do a three-pronged project —corporate newsletter, website and social media—for the Tuscarora Wayne Group of Companies (Tuscarora Wayne Insurance), a highly rated underwriting and claims management company.
The baby boomer and Vietnam veteran was a U.S. Army Intelligence Analyst before returning to civilian life, college and a distinguished career as a journalist, is a husband and father. His wife of more than 40 years, Mary, is a learning support teacher, and they are the parents of two grown children who have become successful professionals themselves:
